Linseed Production Plan By GROWTECH
Linseed can be cultivated largely for seed purpose for extraction of oil. The oil amount of the seed differs from 33-47%. Linseed lubricate is a superb drying lubricant used for processing paints as well as varnishes, water-resistant fabric and even linoleum also like an edible lubricant in certain areas. Linseed-cake is certainly a fine manure as well as livestock feed. Linseed can be used for making papers and also plastics.
Seed rate and sowing time
- Irrigated area: Seed rate (6kg/acre)
- Rainfed area: use 8kg seed/ acre
- Sowing time: 15 October - 15 November
Sowing Method
For growing linseed, loamy soil is more suitable. To prepare the land, plow and harrow two to three times. Use drill for sowing and maintain a distance of one feet between rows.
Approved Varieties
1. Chandni
Flowers of this variety are white and the plants are strong, so the crop remained protected from lodging. The oil contents of its seed is 40 to 42%. This variety has high resistant against pest and diseases with average production of 15 to 20 Mounds/acre.
2. Roshni
This variety was approved for cultivation in 2018. This variety also has better immunity against diseases, pest and winds with average production of 28 mounds/acre.

Irrigation
The frequency of irrigation depends on climatic condition and type of soil. Three irrigations are recommended, especially before flowering, after flowering and at the time of pod formation.
Weeds Management
Timely eradication of weeds, protects crop from diseases and harmful insects. Take spray of S.metolachlore @600 ml/acre within 24hours of sowing.

Diseases and their Management
1. Wilting
Plants affected by the disease initially exhibit wilting of roots, followed by a gradual wilting of the plant. Eventually, the plant dries up and dies. When the affected plant is uprooted, the outer layer of the roots appears cracked.
Chemical control:
Sow the seeds after treating them with 2.5 grams of Thiophenate methyl per kilogram of seeds.
2. Leaf Blight
This disease spreads from seeds and initially appears on young seedlings, causing the stems of the plants to start drying up. Small light brown spots form on the affected plant's leaves, which later turn dark and blackish in color.
Chemical control:
Sow the seeds after treating with Thiophenate methyl @2.5g/kg seed. Spray Tebuconazole+Trifloxystrobin @ 65g/100L of water after diseases appearance.
3. Rust
This disease is transmitted from one place to another through the air. The symptoms of the disease appear as small spots on the leaves and stems of the plant. The spots have a shiny and crystalline appearance initially, but later on, the color of these spots turns black. In severe attacks, the plant's height remains stunted, and the yield is adversely affected.
Chemical control:
Spray Tebuconazole+Trifloxystrobin @65g/100L of water OR spray propiconazole @200ml/100 L of water
Harmful insects and their Management
Termites
The attack of termites mostly occurs on the underground parts of the plant, especially during dry seasons. The infested plants dry up and can be easily uprooted.
Chemical control:
Flood Fipronil 5% @960ml OR Fipronil 80% @60g per acre.
Grass Hopper
Both the adults and nymph forms of this insect destroy plants by feeding on them. In case of severe attack the crop needs to be replanted.
Chemical control:
Spray lambda Cyhalothrin 2.5% @ 250-330ml/acre.
Spotted Bug
Both adults and nymphs feed on leaves, leaflets, and shoots, causing the leaves to turn yellow and dry up.
Chemical control:
Spray Clothianidin@200ml/acre.
Harvesting
Crop is ready for harvesting, when the bolls turn brown. The crop planted at optimum time is ready for harvesting by late April or early May. Therefore, timely harvesting is essential.
